Our Impact

2015

It was in the spring of 2015 that our family decided to begin shipping our outgrown clothing, shoes, and toys to family members in Dominican Republic. They traveled into the rural villages to distribute the provisions, and when I received the pictures, I fell in love. We began to collect more daily essentials to grow and help more in the coming year.

Our Impact

2016

In January of 2016, upon our return from Dominican Republic, we began our work to provide more than ever before and have the ability to help more children & families in need. Donations from our local community, and the families within, began pouring in the door.  The creation of a foundation to help people in need within Dominican Republic began.

On October 3, 2016, Debajo De Las Palmas- Under The Palms In Dominican Republic Inc. was certified to operate as a non-profit organization.

In December of 2016, we packed and shipped 28 boxes, 6 square feet apiece, to Dominican Republic, where they awaited our arrival.  Our family distributed the provisions into the rural villages surrounding the capital, orphanages, and the largest children’s hospital in the country.

In December of 2016 & January of 2017, we were able to provide for over 600 people, including 513 children. Our clothing bundles provide enough clothing for one week.

Our Impact

2017

Our work continued to grow in 2017 and we returned to Dominican Republic with 28 more boxes in December.  We were able to provide infant cradles and bathing tubs, breastfeeding supplies linens and bedding, infant and toddler formulas, daily essentials, educational materials and much more to our children & families in need. UPDR was able to help more children than ever before and bring breastfeeding education to more families than in years past.

Our Impact

2018

In January 2018, our work continued to reach more families. Starting in 2018, we also began to provide nutrient dense foods for local village families as part of our aid. We provided 1 weeks supply of food for 15 families, some families having up to 12 children.

In 2018, we were also able to provided more school and educational supplies than ever before as part of our mission.

UPDR checked in to one of the local villages we have been providing with aid on April 22, and were very pleased with the children's health and happiness! They are looking forward to seeing us again soon!!

Our Impact

2019

In 2019 we expanded not only our geographical reach, but also the amount of families we were able to help. It was our biggest year yet! With shipments totaling over 120 boxes and dozens of infants and children’s beds and gear, we helped children for years to come have a safe place to sleep.

2019 was also an incredibly monumental year for our organization, as we were blessed with volunteers on ground in Dominican Republic to help distribute aid while we welcomes a new member to our family. We are incredibly fortunate to have found such genuine and caring people to help so many in need.

We also had a very successful year in 2019 with our annual fundraiser. This fundraiser made our shipments happen all the way into and through 2020.

our Impact

2020

With our most successful years of 2019 behind us, we moved into 2020 with a sincere hope for helping so many more and reaching higher than ever before. With our distributions moving well into January and February, we were off to a great start. Until the Covid-19 pandemic shattered the world and halted our work. While the government here in New York forced us to close, we were determined to find other ways to help in a safe way. We closed our storage facility and stopped accepting donations of aid here in NY, but knew we we could still help on the ground with feeding families in need.

We funded family meal bags and boxes as our way of keeping the help coming. This lasted a couple of months until we began accepting donations again in July of 2020. Our first shipment for the year, although small, was very meaningful and mighty! In august we sent 12 boxes and numerous baby gear and crib packages to volunteers on the ground. Although shipping was slow, it was a success! We finally had hope for a turn around in the coming months.

Our Impact

2021

2021 has had an incredible start. With shifting our planning to a safer space, we starting shipping in January, and by April, shipped over 90 boxes thus far this year. With the Covid-19 pandemic still a threat, our operations of volunteers had come to a temporary halt and the founder has gone back to a solo operation, similar to when UPDR was first founded.

Despite the challenges with packing and shipping, not to mention the lack of funding without the annual fundraisers happening, we have been incredibly successful in helping families in need.

We look forward to growing in the years to come with our communities continued support.
